About the Role

We are looking for a caring, patient, and reliable Personal Assistant to support an engaging and friendly 18-year-old young man who is autistic and has learning difficulties.

This role is all about helping him enjoy life, develop his independence, and safely access his local community while building a trusting, long-term relationship. He enjoys routine and consistency, so we are looking for someone who understands that meaningful relationships take time to develop and is committed to a gradual introduction process. If you are calm, positive, and enjoy supporting people to achieve their goals, this could be a very rewarding opportunity.

What

You'll Be Doing

Your role will include supporting him to:

  • Access the local community safely and confidently.
  • Travel on buses and develop confidence using public transport.
  • Build money management skills, including paying for items while shopping.
  • Attend activities that he enjoys, including:
    • Bowling
    • Swimming
    • Cinema trips
    • Mini golf
    • Exploring other community activities
  • Encourage independence by supporting him to do as much as possible for himself at a pace that suits him.
  • Maintain a safe environment and recognise situations that may become overwhelming.
  • Understand his individual communication style, routines, and personal triggers, using calm, proactive strategies to help him remain emotionally regulated.
About You

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting autistic people and individuals with learning difficulties.
  • Patient, calm, kind, and nurturing.
  • Reliable, flexible, and committed to providing consistent support.
  • Able to build trust gradually and understands that change can be challenging.
  • A confident communicator who can encourage independence while providing reassurance when needed.

It would be a real bonus if you have an interest in:

  • Geography and learning about different countries.
  • Playmobil.

These shared interests can help build a positive and meaningful relationship.

Essential Requirements
  • Experience supporting autistic individuals and/or people with learning difficulties.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Ability to work the required weekend hours during term time and increased hours during school and college holidays.
  • Commitment to providing consistent, person-centered support and building a trusting relationship over time.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference to a young man's life by helping him develop confidence, independence, and enjoy the activities that matter to him.
