Job overview

This post is a Band 7 role in a busy team in South Bristol CAMHS. A suitable candidate will need to have completed the training to be a Non-Medical prescriber (NMP) and will be able to work resiliently and with a strength based approach to be able to engage young people to facilitate change and empower young people to make positive decisions for themselves going forward.

This role will be a mixture of working alongside the psychiatry team to prescribe to young people and also have a caseload of partnership clients. The team is a friendly and supportive team, who work closely together within the MDT framework.

The Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) provides high-quality, evidence-based assessment, prescribing and medication management for children and young people with a range of mental health difficulties within a busy multidisciplinary CAMHS team. Working collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, therapists, schools and partner agencies, the post holder undertakes comprehensive assessments, initiates and reviews medication, monitors effectiveness and side effects, and supports shared decision-making with young people and their families.

The role includes risk assessment, safeguarding, physical health monitoring, clinical documentation, consultation to colleagues, and contributing to service development, quality improvement, and the delivery of safe, effective, person-centred care.

Main duties of the job

To work as an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber in partnership with the service user and act as lead specialist in Non-Medical Prescribing for service users with enduring Mental health conditions.

Conducting assessments with service users and carers, care co-ordinating, long term casework.

Working collaboratively with other disciplines and other teams in the locality are essential.

Ensure a comprehensive service is provided to the local population. As a senior member of the team the post holder will need to demonstrate sound leadership skills and be able to manage high levels of responsibility.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical

To undertake comprehensive assessments of service users referred to the team, both urgent and routine, including specialist assessments of clients requiring nonmedical prescribing, ensuring that a full health and social needs assessment, including medical history and medication history, is undertaken and implemented where required.

To establish diagnosis and prescribe accordingly, discussing all treatment options (including non-pharmacological treatment) and potential side effects with each service user.

To ensure that record keeping is both up to date and accurate adhering to Trust, NMC and good practice guidelines, including clear documentation of medications discussed, their effects and risks.

To establish, plan and implement Clinical Management Plans (CMPs) where appropriate and review at least annually.
