Open Shift Platform Engineer – Boeing Defence UK

Boeing Defence United Kingdom Limited seeks an Open Shift Platform Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team. The role focuses on the day‑to‑day support, maintenance, and enhancement of the Red Hat Open Shift Container platform and the broader Red Hat Linux server estate, serving multiple programmes including the Ministry of Defence Information Services.

• Implement, support, and troubleshoot Red Hat Open Shift Enterprise deployments.
• Ensure availability, reliability, and performance of Open Shift/Container platform environments.
• Perform patching, software implementations, and upgrades to Open Shift platforms.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for daily Open Shift tasks.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve efficiency and automation using tools such as Ansible, Ansible Tower, Git Lab, and Jenkins.
• Diagnose and resolve faults, document problems, and plan mitigation.
• Support service and application migration activities for RHEL and Open Shift.
• Contribute to design reviews and best‑practice implementation of container platforms and automation tool chains.
• Participate in a 24x7 on‑call roster (approximately 1 in 5 duties) and support services via a team rota.
• Monitor the Service Management tool for incidents, problems, service requests, and change tasks to improve SLA and KPI adherence.

• Hands‑on experience with Open Shift upgrades, installations, and configuration.
• Experience with Red Hat Open Shift Administration activities.
• Knowledge of container monitoring tools and metrics.
• Proficient in scripting for Open Shift day‑to‑day automation tasks.
• Deep understanding of container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Open Shift (v3.x & v4.x).
• Experience with UNIX and Red Hat (RHEL8 & RHEL9) administration.
• Performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with automation tool chains (Ansible, Ansible Tower, Git Lab, Jenkins).

• Dev Ops/CI‑CD process architecture and engineering experience.
• Red Hat Certification: RHSA or RHCE.
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in Containers & Kubernetes.
• Red Hat Certified Specialist in Open Shift Administration.
• Fluency in at least one scripting language (Ruby, Power Shell, Python, or Java).
• Experience working in a secure and high‑availability environment.

• Relocation:
  Not offered – candidates must reside locally or relocate at their own expense.
• Shift pattern: 7:00AM – 7:00PM Monday to Friday.
• On‑call rotation: approximately one on‑call duty in five shifts.
• UK Security Check clearance required.
