This post is for a Senior Open Shift Platform Engineer to join the Infrastructure Team and will be jointly responsible for the day‑to‑day support and maintenance of the Redhat Open Shift Container platform and the wider Redhat Linux server estate. The team provides support to multiple programmes of work, including Ministry of Defence Information Services (MoD IS).
The role requires a hands‑on approach with strong proficiency in container platform technologies, Docker, Kubernetes, RHEL Open Shift 3 & 4, as well as multiple Linux / Unix operating systems (RHEL, HPUX, Solaris, CentOS). The engineer will also appreciate related infrastructure technologies including networking, storage, virtualization and HCI platforms and will work with other teams to ensure smooth project delivery and identify opportunities for improvement through automation.
Key responsibilities include monitoring the Service Management tool for Incidents, Problems, Service Requests and Change tasks to ensure quality and adherence to contractual SLA and KPI requirements for Boeing Defence UK (BDUK).
Responsibilities- Redhat Open Shift enterprise implementation and support.
- Ensuring availability, reliability, and performance of Open Shift/Container Platform.
- Installation, maintenance, and configuration of production and non‑production Open Shift environments.
- Perform patching, software implementations, and upgrades to Redhat Open Shift platforms.
- Support the delivery of automated infrastructure.
- Perform and automate patching and monitoring activities.
- Work closely with other teams across the business to improve efficiency.
- Fault diagnosis including problem statements and mitigation planning.
- Be part of a 24x7 on‑call team and provide extended hours support via a team rota.
- Service and application migration activities (RHEL & OCP).
- Provide input and design review to ensure best‑practice implementation of container platforms and automation tool chains.
- Ability to gain UK SC clearance.
- Hands‑on experience with Open Shift upgrades, installations, and configuration (ideally managed large‑scale migration and deployments).
- Hands‑on experience in Redhat Open Shift administration activities.
- Knowledge of container monitoring tools and metrics.
- Ability to write scripts for Open Shift day‑to‑day task automation.
- Open Shift knowledge of v3.x & 4.x (Operators, registry, networking and CI/CD on Open Shift).
- Troubleshooting and performance tuning experience.
- Experience with automation techniques and tool chains (Ansible, Ansible Tower, Git Lab, Jenkins).
- Thorough understanding of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience in a UNIX and Redhat (RHEL8 & RHEL9) administration role.
- Dev Ops/CI/CD process architecture/engineering experience.
- Redhat Certification RHSA or RHCE.
- Redhat Certified Specialist in Containers & Kubernetes.
- Red Hat Certified Specialist in Open Shift Administration.
- Fluency in at least one scripting language such as Ruby, Power Shell, Python or Java.
- Experience working within a secure and high‑availability environment.
