About the role

Our client, a firm of solicitors, is looking for an experienced Residential Conveyancer to join its property team on a 12 month locum contract. The role centres on a standard residential caseload, with the successful candidate taking files through from instruction to completion and post-completion.

You will work with a high degree of independence, managing your own matters while keeping clients, agents, lenders and other solicitors informed at each stage. The work covers freehold and leasehold sales, purchases and remortgages, and the team needs someone who can pick up a live caseload and keep it moving.

The firm is office based, so the role suits someone who values being part of a team on site. A minimum of four days per week in the office is required, with five days preferred.

Main responsibilities
  • Manage a full caseload of residential sale and purchase transactions, including freehold, leasehold and new build matters, from instruction to completion
  • Handle remortgages and transfers of equity where required
  • Carry out client onboarding, including identity and source of funds checks, in line with anti-money laundering requirements
  • Draft and review contracts, transfer documents and other transactional paperwork
  • Review title documents, search results and replies to enquiries, and raise and resolve issues as they arise
  • Report on title to buyers and lenders, and advise clients on key points in clear terms
  • Prepare for and complete exchange and completion, including SDLT and Land Registry requirements
  • Complete post-completion work, including registration with HM Land Registry
  • Keep clients, estate agents and other parties updated and respond promptly to queries
  • Maintain accurate file records and comply with the firm's procedures and regulatory obligations
Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor, licensed conveyancer or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years PQE in residential conveyancing
  • Proven experience of running a standard residential caseload independently
  • Sound knowledge of residential property law and conveyancing practice
  • Familiarity with AML, SDLT and Land Registry procedures
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and clear communication with clients and third parties
  • Able to work in the office a minimum of 4 days per week

Desirable

  • Experience of working with a case management system
  • Experience of leasehold and new build transactions
  • Experience of working as a locum or on short-term contracts
The offer
  • 12 month locum contract
  • £60 per hour
  • Office based, minimum 4 days per week, with 5 days preferred
  • Standard residential caseload within an established property team
  • Further details on start date to be confirmed with candidates

This role offers an established residential caseload and a 12 month contract for a conveyancer with at least 5 years PQE who is comfortable working independently in an office-based team.
