Court of Protection Solicitor

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours and hybrid working available.

An established law firm is looking to recruit a Court of Protection Solicitor or FCILEx Legal Executive to join its specialist team in Bristol.

This is an opportunity to manage your own caseload involving property and financial affairs, deputyship matters, trusts and disputes, while advising vulnerable clients and their families. You will work alongside experienced specialists, with opportunities to support and supervise junior team members and contribute to the continued development of the department.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Court of Protection work or a closely related area, with strong drafting, communication and organisational skills. You should be confident managing your own workload, taking responsibility for complex matters and delivering a high standard of client care.

• Manage a varied caseload involving Property and Affairs Deputyships, trusts and related matters.
• Advise deputies, trustees, vulnerable clients and their families on financial affairs and individual needs.
• Assist senior colleagues with substantial case files, including contentious deputyship matters and litigation support.
• Handle new enquiries and maintain strong relationships with clients and relevant third parties.
• Manage day-to-day client requirements, including arranging payments, maintaining accurate records and attending client locations when necessary.
• Delegate and supervise work carried out by paralegals and trainee staff where appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with SRA regulations, Office of the Public Guardian standards and relevant professional requirements.
• Maintain accurate records, manage billing and meet agreed financial targets.
• Keep up to date with developments in Court of Protection law and contribute to improving the quality of the department's work.

• Qualified Solicitor registered with the SRA or FCILEx-qualified Legal Executive.
• Ideally between 1–5 years' PQE, with experience in Court of Protection law and practice.
• Strong knowledge of deputyship, mental capacity or related areas of law.
• Excellent drafting, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently, prioritise competing deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
• Highly organised, proactive and attentive to detail.
• Confident building client relationships and contributing to business development.
• Comfortable using case management systems and other relevant IT applications.

• Previous experience within a busy Property and Affairs team.
• Familiarity with statutory funding challenges and education appeals.

You will join a specialist team handling a varied and rewarding caseload, with the opportunity to develop your expertise, take ownership of client matters and support the development of junior colleagues.

The position offers flexible working arrangements, with some hybrid working available by agreement to meet the needs of the department.
