Due to continued growth, Apex Pumps is seeking an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join its team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The Role

The CNC Setter / Operator will be responsible for manufacturing precision-engineered components to the highest quality standards within Apex Pumps' busy machine shop.

Working with Mazak CNC lathes and Mazak and Haas machining centres, the successful candidate will set and operate machinery, prepare tooling and fixtures, interpret engineering drawings and manufacture precision components from a variety of materials.

The role also involves inspecting completed components using precision measuring equipment to ensure they meet exact specifications. Tooling and offset adjustments will be made as required to maintain dimensional accuracy and maximise production efficiency.

Requirements

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting and operating CNC turning and milling machines
  • Preparing tooling, fixtures and machine set-ups
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Inspecting finished components using precision measuring equipment
  • Carrying out routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance
  • Identifying and resolving machining issues to minimise downtime
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and reduce future production issues

To be considered for this role, candidates should have:

  • A minimum of three years' experience as a CNC Setter and/or Operator within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Experience setting and operating CNC turning and/or milling machines
  • Good working knowledge of Mazatrol and Haas/Fanuc control systems
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • An engineering apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification

Experience of working to tight tolerances and maintaining high standards of quality within a production environment would be advantageous.

This role may also be suitable for candidates with experience as a CNC Machinist, CNC Miller, CNC Turner, CNC Programmer Setter Operator, CNC Machine Operator, CNC Lathe Operator, CNC Manufacturing Technician, Precision Machinist or CNC Engineer.

  • Salary of £34,500 - £37,650 per annum, depending on experience
  • Overtime paid at time and a half
