We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Portbury site as EHS Lead. The EHS Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the site's Environment, Health & Safety management systems. The role will ensure compliance with all relevant legal, corporate, and customer requirements while driving a proactive safety culture that protects our people, environment, products, and business.
Reporting into the Plant Manager, the EHS Lead will work closely with all departments to embed safety as a core value and ensure environmental and health & safety risks are effectively managed across the site.
This role is based full-time out of our Portbury site.

What you'll be doing
Lead the site's health and safety agenda, promoting a positive and proactive safety culture, providing expert advice and support to managers, team leaders, and employees on EHS matters.
Develop and implement EHS strategies aligned with business objectives and champion behavioural safety and employee engagement initiative and act as the site's subject matter expert for all Health, Safety, and Environmental matters.
Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety and Environmental legislation and maintain and continuously improve the site's EHS Management System.
Conduct regular compliance audits, inspections, and workplace assessments and lead and review risk assessments, COSHH assessments, manual handling assessments, and safe systems of work.
Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events.
Analyse safety performance data and identify trends for improvement.
Develop and deliver EHS training programs across the site and manage site induction processes for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Manage environmental compliance relating to waste, energy, emissions, water usage, and site permits.
Lead sustainability initiatives to improve environmental performance and monitor environmental KPIs and support corporate sustainability objectives.
Ensure appropriate waste segregation and recycling processes are maintained.
Work alongside Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure EHS requirements support food safety and operational excellence.
Participate in audits from customers, regulatory authorities, and third-party certification bodies.
Ensure contractor activities and engineering projects are carried out safely and in compliance with site standards.
Support business continuity and emergency response planning.
Develop and maintain site audit schedules and conduct internal EHS audits and inspections.
Support external audits and ensure corrective actions are closed in a timely manner.
Prepare and present EHS performance reports to site leadership.
Manage occupational health and wellbeing. What you can bring to the role Previous experience of leading EHS across a manufacturing site.
A primary degree in Science / Engineering with an OHS/Environmental/Sustainability qualification to Diploma level or higher. Previous experience with QHSE management systems and continuous improvement across multiple sites. Understanding of sustainability and ethical trading best practice.
