Job Description & How to Apply Below
We Are
Curiosity UnLtd is a Bristol-based grassroots think-and-do tank working at the intersection of art, culture, lived experience, and social justice. We bring people together across sectors to explore how culture can unlock human potential and address inequalities that are too often overlooked within civic and cultural life. This assessment is supported by multiple independent analyses of racial inequality and social mobility in Bristol. Therefore, since 2023, we have acted as a trusted civic convener, developing place-based work that connects heritage, culture, and policy with care, credibility, and ambition.

The Opportunity
A rare opportunity to shape the foundations of a major place-based cultural and civic initiative at a pivotal moment. Working with a cross-sector consortium of cultural, civic, educational, and corporate partners, you will play a leading role in the development and readiness phase of a proposed UK Capital of Civil Rights for Bristol, laying the groundwork for a longer-term programme through to 2029.

The Role
This is a development-phase role focused on planning, readiness, and partnership, not programme delivery. This role exists to develop, position, and prepare a Consortium-owned portfolio of investable propositions, supporting the Consortium in moving from ambition to readiness with purpose and at pace.

Supported by and accountable to a cross-sector consortium, we’re seeking to co-create with a Strategic Producer.

As an experienced, values-led Strategic Producer motivated by civic impact, your focus will be on aligning people, resources, governance, and timing — rather than delivering projects or managing programmes. Your role will be to clarify priorities, build investment readiness, and develop a credible pipeline of phased income.

We are looking for someone who has worked at the intersection of culture, policy, and decision-making, with the ability to shape credible, fundable propositions within complex funding environments. You will enjoy bringing people together across sectors, developing shared agendas, and creating the conditions for sustained civic engagement and shared ownership. You may come from fundraising, partnerships, commissioning, cultural strategy, civic development, or impact investment backgrounds, but you are not defined by any single pathway.

This role will suit you if you enjoy capacity-building (early, shaping) phases, are comfortable working with ambiguity, and are motivated by enabling others to succeed rather than taking ownership of delivery yourself.

Your Mandate & Key Outcomes
You will lead the development of a viable cultural delivery plan for the period 2026–2029, marking key civic milestones leading to the centenary of Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s birth:
  • Cultural Plan – Deliver a credible, phased cultural plan for the period 2026–2029, setting out priorities, sequencing, and delivery assumptions.
  • Financial Architecture – Produce a transparent, realistic budget to enable fundraising and partner support-in-kind.
  • Fundraising Strategy – Ensure the route to income is credible, disciplined, and sustainable, including proposition shaping, market testing, and securing core programme income.
  • Development Handover & Learning Summary: A concise handover document capturing progress made, decisions taken, propositions developed, key learnings and recommendations for the next phase, supporting consortium continuity and funder reporting.
By the end of the contract, success will be defined by the Consortium having a shared, credible roadmap and clear next-step options, whether through secured funding or defined readiness for the next phase.

Success includes a credible roadmap with clear next steps, whether via secured funding or readiness for the next phase.
Position Requirements
High School, 5+ Years work experience
You may come from fundraising, partnerships, commissioning, cultural strategy, civic development, or impact investment — but you are not defined by any single pathway.

Essential Criteria
Candidates must demonstrate:
  • Visionary, strategic leadership, with the ability to articulate what success looks like and mobilise partners around a compelling long-term vision.
  • Proven experience convening and leading complex cross-sector partnerships, building trust and enabling inclusive decision-making.
  • Experience shaping investable propositions, funding strategies, or income pipelines, including innovative or blended financial models.
  • Strong strategic judgement, particularly around readiness, sequencing, and risk, balancing ambition with disciplined execution.
  • Confidence operating at a senior level across cultural, civic, corporate, and policy contexts, with credibility among diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and shared ownership, adapting to evolving conditions without losing strategic focus.
  • A values-driven approach, with a demonstrable commitment to equity, representation, and civic impact informing all decision-making.
Desirable Criteria
Candidates may also bring:
  • Experience translating heritage, culture, or civic initiatives into scalable, investable platforms.
  • Familiarity with public policy environments, including engagement with local or national government and arms-length bodies.
  • Experience working within or alongside place-based, consortium-led, or multi-year initiatives.
  • A track record of innovative financial thinking beyond traditional grant funding, including sponsorship, philanthropy, or earned income.
  • Strong delivery discipline, balancing big-picture thinking with attention to detail and outcomes.

  • Enjoy Bristol’s exceptional quality of life—green spaces, independent food culture, festivals, and a thriving arts scene—making it one of the UK’s best places to live, work, and play.
  • Shape long-term legacy, not just short-term projects—ideal for candidates who want their work to matter for decades.
