In this role, you will provide care to acutely unwell patients with complex gastroenterology, hepatology, and endocrine conditions, requiring rapid assessment, timely escalation, and confident clinical decision‑making. This includes supporting individuals with liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, diabetic emergencies, and a broad range of hormonal disorders. You will work within a close, supportive multidisciplinary team, collaborating with nurses and doctors to deliver safe, high‑quality care, while offering day‑to‑day leadership and supporting the Ward Manager in maintaining excellent standards, staff development, and effective ward coordination.

As a Band 6 Senior Nurse in Charge, you will take a key leadership role in guiding the clinical team, ensuring safe staffing, and sustaining high standards of care across every shift. You will act as a visible, approachable leader‑supporting junior colleagues, coordinating patient flow, and upholding the governance and quality frameworks that underpin our accredited service. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 5 ready to progress, or an existing Band 6 seeking a new challenge within a specialist environment.

Qualifications

and Experience
  • A registered nurse with substantial post‑registration experience
  • Previous experience within endocrine, hepatology, or gastroenterology services would be advantageous
  • Proven leadership ability with excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Teaching or mentorship qualification is desirable
  • A commitment to professional development, service improvement, and patient safety
  • Someone who thrives in a collaborative, supportive team environment
