Job Description & How to Apply Below

Applications are invited for a colleague to join our well established ANNP team within our Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified ANNP to join our team and gain experience in tertiary level neonatal intensive care. The regional NICU at St Michael's Hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. It also works closely with the regional South West Neonatal Advice and Retrieval (SONAR) team.

St Michael's NICU is an exciting and dynamic unit, covering all aspects of neonatal care and has a strong ethos of inclusion and development of our staff.

The ANNP role encompasses all four pillars of advanced practice with 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical for leadership and management, research and audit, and education, contributing to service improvement and professional development.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will join our established neonatal team, comprising medical, nursing and allied healthcare professionals who work closely as a multidisciplinary team. As an ANNP you will work across the Tier 1 rota to provide high level clinical care within the Neonatal unit, Central delivery suite, Transitional Care and postnatal wards. You will work closely with specialist services across the Trust and the senior medical team including Consultants, Registrars and ANNPs.

The postholder will be able to take a lead role for the immediate, critical and ongoing management of sick infants and their families and have freedom to interpret and act within broad policies and protocols. This will include taking a lead role in the safe transportation of sick infants within the Trust. The postholder will be an Independent Prescriber and take a proactive role in the education of the nursing and medical teams and families of the patients within the neonatal unit.

In addition, they will actively participate in leadership activities, audit and research projects, in conjunction with the audit facilitator, and in the updating of unit protocols and guidelines. The postholder will provide ongoing supervision and support in the induction and training of medical and nursing staff, including mentoring of trainee ANNPs.
