Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is hiring an Advanced Diabetes Nurse Specialist to work within the District Nursing Service in Renfrewshire HSCP. The role requires an Adult Nurse on the NMC Register, significant experience in diabetes care, a postgraduate diploma in diabetes (master's level or equivalent) and a non‑medical prescribing qualification.

Full‑time (36 hours per week) - Shift pattern:
Monday‑Friday 8:30 am–4:30 pm (excluding public holidays)
- Assess, plan and develop individualised care plans for people with diabetes and their families or carers, especially those requiring complex management.
- Deliver high‑level clinical interventions across the life course, including insulin initiation, dose adjustment, GLP‑1 therapy and self‑management skill development.
- Provide tele‑health consultations and advice to support self‑management and reduce crisis risk.
- Deliver patient care based on evidence and best practice, challenging and improving current practice where appropriate.
- Support patients through difficult life experiences that may affect diabetes control.
- Enable realistic glycaemic targets using a person‑centred approach and lifestyle advice.
- Manage and support patients with diabetic complications to reduce progression.
- Promote collaborative working and effective communication between primary and secondary care through regular MDT meetings.
- Co‑ordinate and participate in the mentorship, supervision and clinical education of learners and junior staff.
- Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register with significant diabetes care experience and evidence of Level 7 core Advanced CNS competencies and specialist diabetes competencies.
- Postgraduate diploma in diabetes (master’s level or equivalent) and related workplace assessments and reflective accounts.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Competence in IT, PCs and relevant software.
- Excellent communication, verbal and written, and problem‑solving skills.
- Non‑medical prescriber (V300).
- Willingness to work flexibly and lead/manage a team.
