We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our motivated and passionate Outpatients Nursing Team.

If you are a qualified and experienced Registered Children’s Nurse who can demonstrate compassion, enthusiasm, and excellent teamwork, we would be delighted to hear from you.

We have a permanent position and fixed-term position until the end of April 2027. These roles provides an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively within our ambulatory care setting at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, while developing a broad range of clinical skills. These include skin prick testing, burns wound care, and suture removal to name a few.

The post is based across Carousel, Fairground, and Rainforest Outpatients, and will involve flexible working across these departments. There will also be opportunities to support outlying clinics, including St Michael’s Hospital (STMH), South Bristol, and Weston General Hospital.

Working hours include Monday to Friday between 08:00–18:00, and weekends from 08:00–13:00, on a flexible rota.

This position is only suitable for Registered Nurses who have completed their preceptorship. Therefore is not suitable for Newly Qualified nurses.

The successful candidates will:

• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Be able to build and maintain effective relationships with a range of clinical and non-clinical colleagues
• Manage a busy workload, prioritise effectively, and make timely, informed decisions
• Be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment
• Have experience in burns and/or wound care dressings
• Be able to apply knowledge and theory effectively in clinical practice

• RSCN/ RN child branch (NMC registered) or equivalent
• Current NMC registration
• Work towards relevant university accredited post basic study programmes e.g. teaching and assessing course

• Broad knowledge and experience of clinical nursing practice within a hospital environment
• Interest in the clinical area
• Experience of taking charge
• Experience of teaching

• Demonstrate competence in clinical skills relevant to the clinical area
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and MDT
• Competence in calculations for safe administration of medicines/fluids
• Ability to take the lead, initiate and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient
• Clinical decision making ability
• Teaching/supervisory skills
• Ability to work with minimum supervision
• Act in a professional manner
• Self motivated
• A team player
• Recognition of own limits
