Clinical Matron Inpatient/Maternity Services
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and forward‑thinking Clinical Matron to lead and enhance the delivery of high‑quality care across our Inpatient Maternity Services within the Women & Children’s Division.
This pivotal leadership role spans a diverse portfolio, including our inpatient antenatal ward, triage and scheduled care services, and inpatient postnatal ward. As a visible, proactive and approachable leader, you will champion family‑centred care, uphold the highest standards of safety and quality, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development across these specialist areas.
Job responsibilities- Provide clinical, professional and midwifery leadership to a group of wards and clinical team(s).
- Be identifiable, highly visible, authoritative and accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance, advice and support.
- Ensure delivery of optimum quality family‑centred care in line with the ten key matron responsibilities outlined nationally.
- Make services responsive to needs, ensuring planning involves women, birthing people and their families and reflects the diverse population served.
- Work closely with other matrons, divisional directors of Midwifery and Nursing, and colleagues within and across the Trust to promote safe and equitable care.
- Represent the clinical speciality and division internally and externally, deputising for the Deputy Divisional Director of Midwifery Nursing when required.
- Spend part of the time available within clinical practice.
- NMC registration
- Educated to Masters level or willing to undertake
- Broad working knowledge of Maternity services
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Current knowledge of Midwifery "Best Practice"
- Evidence of teaching, facilitating and presenting
- Experience of leading teams, including positively managing change and performance management of team members
- Competent in advanced communication skills, including negotiation, advocacy, motivational interviewing and encouraging behavioural change
- Initiative, flexibility and adaptability to meet needs of a changing service
- Ability to cope with intense emotional issues presented in the course of work and to support others
- Knowledge of Acute General Hospital systems
- Experience of undertaking research and audit projects
- Implementing midwifery/nursing guidance and championing good clinical practice
- Able to prepare and deliver effective presentations to large audiences
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure examination by the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
£57,528 to £64,750 a year (pro rata for part time)
