Emissions Scientist
Bristol | Hybrid | £45,000 - £60,000 + Benefits

Following continued investment and growth, they're now looking to appoint an Emissions Scientist to strengthen the scientific capability within their multidisciplinary engineering and R&D team.
The Opportunity
This is a genuinely unique opportunity for an experienced scientist to apply atmospheric and emissions expertise to technology making a measurable environmental impact.
You'll analyse complex datasets captured from advanced sensing systems, developing scientifically robust methodologies that accurately detect, localise and quantify industrial emissions. Working closely with software engineers, data scientists and hardware specialists, you'll help shape the scientific foundations behind an industry-leading product while producing customer insight that directly influences operational and environmental decision making.
What You'll Be Doing
* Develop and improve emissions quantification methodologies, validation processes and analytical models.
* Assess uncertainty, detection limits and confidence levels to ensure scientifically defensible conclusions.
* Design and evaluate controlled trials, validation studies and field experiments.
* Analyse environmental and operational datasets to detect, interpret and quantify emission sources.
* Interpret results considering atmospheric conditions, meteorology, site operations and measurement uncertainty.
* Produce high-quality technical reports, translating complex scientific findings into clear customer insight.
* Collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to develop analytical tools and production-ready scientific methods.
* Support the scientific design of monitoring campaigns and customer deployments.
* Work alongside customers and technical stakeholders to understand operational challenges and measurement objectives.
* Contribute towards scientific publications, technical papers and industry best practice.
* Stay current with developments across atmospheric science, methane measurement and environmental monitoring.
What We're Looking For
* Degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or another highly quantitative discipline.
* Experience with in emissions measurement, atmospheric science, environmental monitoring, meteorology or a similar scientific field.
* Strong understanding of gas measurement, atmospheric transport, dispersion modelling or environmental data analysis.
* Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex real-world datasets.
* Strong Python skills for scientific analysis (Num Py, Pandas, Sci Py or similar).
* Experience communicating technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Ability to work collaboratively across software, engineering and scientific teams.
Desirable Experience
* MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific discipline.
* Experience with in methane emissions, oil & gas, utilities, landfill, wastewater, biogas or similar industrial environments.
* Knowledge of emissions reporting frameworks such as OGMP 2.0 or measurement-informed inventories.
* Experience with GIS, spatial analysis, atmospheric modelling or computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
* Exposure to lidar, spectroscopy, remote sensing or optical measurement technologies.
* Understanding of scientific software development, version control and reproducible research practices.
