About

The Role We're looking for a proactive and customer-focused Reuse Shop Operative to join our exciting new Reuse Shop at Hempsted Recycling Centre. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in reducing waste and supporting the circular economy by identifying reusable items before they enter the waste stream. Working closely with the recycling centre team and Reuse Shop colleagues, you'll help recover quality items that can be repaired, reused and resold, giving them a second life within the local community.

We're looking for someone with a keen eye for spotting quality reusable items and a genuine passion for reducing waste and helping the environment. You'll enjoy interacting with members of the public, providing helpful advice and encouraging reuse wherever possible. What you'll be doing As a Reuse Shop Operative, you'll be at the heart of the reuse process, helping to identify and recover valuable items that might otherwise be disposed of. Your responsibilities will include:
• Identifying suitable reusable items brought to the recycling centre.
• Assisting visitors to separate and divert quality items for reuse.
• Working closely with site colleagues to recover items safely and efficiently.
• Sorting, handling, cleaning and preparing items for the Reuse Shop.
• Supporting stock movement between the recycling centre and the shop.
• Testing electrical items where required and following appropriate procedures.
• Assisting with stock rotation and storage. This role will operate on summer and winter hours:
Summer 08.15 – 17.20 ( shop opening times 09.00 – 16.00 ) Winter 09.15 – 16.20 ( shop opening times 10am – 15.00 ) The working days are Saturday to Wednesday, the shop is closed on Thursday and Friday every week. You will need
• Good understanding of Maths & English
• Previous customer focused experience
• Basic knowledge of health & safety
• Ability to follow basic information / instructions
