Are you looking for a rewarding role providing mental health and wellbeing support to children and young people in Bristol?
We are recruiting Mental Health & Wellbeing Mentors to work in specialist and mainstream schools supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, trauma backgrounds, anxiety, and behavioural challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in mental health support, counselling, pastoral work, youth work, crisis intervention, residential care, behaviour mentoring or wellbeing roles who want to make an impact in education.

If you have previously supported vulnerable individuals with emotional or behavioural needs, your skills are highly transferable and very in demand.

Key Responsibilities (Mental Health & Wellbeing Mentor Duties)

Provide 1:1 and small-group emotional wellbeing support
Help pupils with anxiety, emotional regulation, coping strategies and confidence‑building
Support students with low mood, social withdrawal or trauma‑related behaviours
Implement personalised wellbeing plans, behaviour plans and calming strategies
Assist teachers in developing structured routines and supportive learning environments
Use de‑escalation techniques to reduce distress and create emotional safety
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who need consistent, reliable support
Promote resilience, positive behaviour choices and self‑belief
Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing and trauma‑informed school culture

⭐ Essential Skills & Experience

Experience in mental health support, pastoral work, youth work, care, crisis intervention or SEMH roles
Strong listening, communication and relationship‑building skills
Ability to stay composed during challenging behaviours or emotional moments
A calm, empathetic and supportive approach to working with young people
Proactive, adaptable and confident in fast‑paced school environments
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

⭐ Desirable (Not Essential)

Experience working in schools, residential settings or SEN environments
Understanding of Autism, SEMH, trauma‑informed practice or behavioural needs
Training in de‑escalation, safeguarding, mental health first aid or similar
Ability to run wellbeing workshops, emotional regulation activities or check‑ins
A driver with access to a car (preferred but not essential)
