Hours:

8.30am‑5.00pm Monday–Thursday and 8.30am‑4.30pm Friday. Majority office‑based.

Role Summary

The First Assessment Service (First Response) seeks a qualified Social Worker to join the First Response Team as a deputy team manager. The role involves triaging referrals for children and young people, ensuring appropriate safeguarding and support services. It requires supporting a team of advisors and working closely with multi‑agency partners. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee safeguarding referrals and decision making from the front desk.
  • Provide specialist advice on Family Help, Targeted Support Services and urgent safeguarding referrals.
  • Support non‑social‑work qualified First Response advisors in safeguarding enquiries.
  • Collaborate with other organisations in the Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub and internal children’s services.
  • Make threshold decisions to advance safeguarding referrals to social work teams.
  • Manage line responsibilities for a small team of social workers.
  • Maintain a high quality, evidence‑based assessment under pressure.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Social work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding practice and processes.
  • Excellent decision‑making and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multi‑agency partners and specialist services.
  • Strong teamwork and ability to work under pressure.
  • Capacity to learn and develop in a management role.
