Job Description & How to Apply Below

One You Kent is Kent’s free, countywide lifestyle and wellbeing service, supporting adults to make positive, sustainable changes to improve their health and reduce the risk of long‑term conditions. The service provides evidence‑based support including smoking cessation (whole of Kent), weight management, physical activity and healthy lifestyle interventions (East Kent only), delivered through a strengths‑based, person‑centred approach. Working closely with GP practices, Primary Care Networks, local authorities and community and voluntary sector partners, One You Kent is embedded within local communities to ensure support is accessible, inclusive and responsive to local need.

The service plays a key role in reducing health inequalities across Kent through partnership working, community engagement and flexible delivery models.

Working as a Healthy Lifestyle Advisor within ABL’s, One You Kent Service, this role brings together evidence‑based weight management with broader lifestyle behaviour change support. You will work with adults supporting them to lose weight, get more active, improve their mental health and set goals to make lasting change. Additionally, the HLA will deliver healthy diet and cooking programmes, 1:1 health coaching, and weight management groups.

This also includes supporting people to improve their motivation and achieve lifestyle goals if they are not ready or motivated for weight management groups.

Embedded within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver holistic, person‑centred interventions in community and digital settings, supporting individuals to achieve long‑term improvements in their health and wellbeing through practical, realistic and evidence‑based approaches

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will deliver adult weight management programmes across community and digital settings, providing evidence‑based support to help clients achieve sustainable weight loss and adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours. The role involves delivering group sessions and one‑to‑one support covering nutrition, behaviour change, physical activity, alcohol reduction, cookery, and food skills, while using a client‑centred approach incorporating motivational interviewing, positive psychology, and SMART goal setting.

You will monitor client progress through regular consultations and data tracking, identifying appropriate interventions where additional support is needed, and ensure all assessments and interventions align with current NICE guidance. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to holistic assessments alongside GPs and Psychotherapists to develop personalised care plans and actively participate in MDT and wider organisational meetings.

The role also includes supporting service development through the creation of new programmes, resources, and curriculum materials, co‑producing session content with clients and stakeholders, contributing to quality improvement initiatives, and providing case studies to support contract reporting. You will build and maintain strong community partnerships to increase referrals and promote services, represent the service at stakeholder and community events, and support social media activity to encourage healthy lifestyle messaging.

In addition, you will maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with ABL Health policies, effectively manage workload and deadlines, contribute to the training and support of new staff and volunteers, complete mandatory training requirements, and demonstrate ongoing professional development. Flexibility is essential, including the ability to travel across the project area and work occasional evenings and weekends to meet service needs.
