Advanced Software Engineer @ Vertical Aerospace

Join the Digital Innovation team where software drives the future of aviation. In this role you will work on high‑impact, technically challenging problems supporting flight test, engineering, and certification activities in a fast‑paced, safety‑first environment.

At Vertical Aerospace we are pioneering electric aviation. Our Valo eVTOL— a zero‑emissions aircraft— targets airliner‑level safety certification by 2028 and will set a new safety standard for flight. We are redefining aerospace best practices and scaling from prototype to SME.

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, integrate cutting‑edge tools, and develop solutions where none exist. Expect to work on secure, scalable data pipelines, full‑stack web applications, automation, monitoring, and cloud‑based instrumentation to support flight test and certification.

• Build secure, scalable data pipelines from aircraft and test rigs to the cloud
• Develop full‑stack web applications for internal engineering and operational workflows
• Automate and monitor test equipment and engineering systems
• Design hybrid cloud instrumentation, monitoring, and analytics services
• Prototype and define cloud architectures for certified and in‑service aircraft
• Support and enable non‑software engineering teams through scripting, tooling, and data processing

• Strong software engineering fundamentals: networking, data, and system design
• Proven experience delivering high‑quality software in commercial or engineering environments
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Type Script, C#, C++, Rust) and Python scripting
• Experience with modern web development across front‑end and back‑end stacks (React a plus)
• Working knowledge of databases, testing, automation, and CI/CD in agile teams
• Experience developing on Linux/macOS, using containers, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS)
• Familiarity with scalable, secure, and distributed systems—including messaging and APIs
• A curious, problem‑solving mindset and confidence to tackle complex, ambiguous challenges
