AI Engineer, Machine Learning/ ML Engineer
Are you passionate about harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to transform the insurance industry? We're looking for a talented AI Engineer to join our forward-thinking team. You'll use your expertise in AI and machine learning to develop innovative applications that strengthen our insurance products and services. Collaborating closely with cross functional teams, you'll help drive the integration of cutting edge AI technologies across underwriting, claims processing, risk assessment, and customer support, making a real difference in how we serve our customers and optimise our operations.
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) in the future. Away from home means either attendance at our Bristol office, visiting clients or attending industry events.

- Design, develop, and deploy AI and GenAI applications in AXA environments.
- Build and implement Task, Domain, and Orchestrator AI Agents using multi‑agent frameworks.
- Create core Agentic AI components such as memory, guardrails, orchestration, and tools marketplace.
- Integrate AI and GenAI solutions seamlessly into existing systems and workflows.
- Collaborate with data engineers to develop data pipelines and infrastructure supporting AI applications.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of AI applications, Agents, and Agentic systems.
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams to define, design, and implement new features.
- Stay informed on the latest AI and machine learning trends, applying them to enhance our projects.
- Proven full‑stack engineering experience, including developing code as infrastructure for Dev Ops deployment pipelines, with containerisation skills using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Applied experience in building and deploying applications in cloud‑native environments, preferably Azure, including Azure Functions, API Management, Azure AI Foundry, Resource Groups, Storage Accounts, Application Insights, and Key Vault.
- Practical experience of developing GenAI applications, such as Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG), prompt and context engineering, embeddings, chat completions, and integrating with Large Language Model (LLM) APIs.
- Understanding of Agentic AI components and infrastructure, including LLMs, Multi‑Component Processes (MCP), agent hierarchies, orchestration, evaluations, memory, and trace setup.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, ReAct, and NodeJS.
- Demonstrable experience in designing scalable AI solutions and integrating them into complex systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, translating technical requirements into practical AI solutions.
- Problem‑solving skills with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning emerging AI technologies.
- Eligibility and authorisation to work in the United Kingdom.
