Brief DescriptionYoull help keep our nation moving every day. This role involves daily upkeep of the rail network and working outdoors in a team to support essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users. Training will be provided to develop the necessary safety and operating competencies.
Role overview (External)Technicians provide the link between team leaders and operatives and can specialise in various disciplines. For this role you will become a specialist in Overhead Line Equipment. Responsibilities include working outside in all conditions, often in demanding manual work, transporting kit, and operating next to moving trains. Safety, teamwork and adherence to standards are critical.
Responsibilities- Work outdoors in all conditions as part of a maintenance team to keep the railway running safely and reliably.
- Specialise in Overhead Line Equipment; perform manual tasks, transport equipment, and operate in challenging environments.
- Lead or support the team as required by the team leader; ensure the team has the right competencies to meet safety standards.
- Promote safe working practices and actively identify and challenge risks to safety.
- Deliver work safely, efficiently, and with quality, using transferable skills and behaviours.

continuously improve technical and non-technical skills and stay up to date with standards and procedures. - Contribute to a clear career path within Network Rail, with opportunities for progression from technician to team leader.
Skills & Qualifications
- Leadership: able to lead, motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
- Effective communication: deliver clear instructions to the team and colleagues.
- Technical skills: knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal techniques in your discipline.
- Safety: model safe behaviours, arrange safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations.
- Problem solving: persistent in finding safe and effective solutions; keep skills up to date with new standards and instructions.
- Willingness to learn: continue developing skills and competencies.
- Relevant qualification: NVQ Level 1 or 2 in the discipline, or an equivalent level of experience.
- Shift patterns include days, nights and weekends.
- Outdoor working in varied conditions; comfortable working outside.
- Pre-employment checks include drug and alcohol testing, medical assessment, BPSS, hearing and eyesight examinations.
- Driving licence (category
B) and within a 60-minute commute of the location.
