We provide expert care for babies with complex needs—including respiratory, surgical, neurological, and cardiac conditions—as well as pre‑term and full‑term infants. You'll be joining a highly skilled and experienced multidisciplinary team (MDT) that includes nurses, nursery nurses, medics, consultants, and allied healthcare professionals. Main Duties of the Job
  • Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate prescribed treatment and care for patients and their families
  • Communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality with patient’s carers and the multidisciplinary team
  • Act as a professional role model setting standards of practice
  • Promote clinical effectiveness and opportunities for teaching junior colleagues and students
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment for patients
  • Administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy
  • Develop clinical skills and participate in continuous professional development
  • Provide accurate timely contemporary records of care and treatment in line with Trust record keeping policy and NM

At this time, we are unable to support nurses or midwives who require OSCE to register with the NMC UK. Unfortunately, such applications will not be considered.

Job Responsibilities

  • 8‑12 weeks supernumerary period dependent on experience
  • In‑depth induction programme
  • Excellent training and development opportunities. The QIS (Qualified in Specialty) course is delivered in the Southwest by the South West Neonatal Network.
  • Newborn Individualised Developmental Care and Assessment Program (NIDCAP) trained nurses who are part of the Family and Infant Neurodevelopmental Education (FINE) faculty, providing FINE training to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Support from our in‑house Education team and SIM training
  • Phillips ICCA system for all monitoring, prescribing and documentation

Qualifications and Training
  • RSCN Part 8/RN (Child branch, part 15) or RN qualification, or Registered Midwife
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Qualification in Neonatal Nursing or willingness to undertake this
  • Post Basic Certificate or related study in Neonatal Critical Care
  • 1st Degree in Nursing or health related subject or working towards
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrate competence in clinical skills relevant to the clinical area
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and MDT
  • Competence in calculations for safe administration of medicines/fluids
  • Ability to initiate and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient
  • Clinical decision making ability
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Act in a professional manner
