The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Lead for Domestic Abuse and Child Protection - Information Systems (CP-IS) plays a pivotal role in ensuring University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust (UHBW) delivers safe and effective care, adhering to the Human Rights Act (1998), Children Act 1989/2004, Domestic Abuse Act (2021), Mental Capacity Act (MCA, 2005), and the Mental Capacity Amendment Act (2019) and Care Act (2014).

This incorporates any legislative statutory guidance e.g. Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023.

Job Responsibilities

UHBW Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults and to protecting them from all risks of harm. The organisation expects all staff to work to national and local children and adult safeguarding policies and procedures. The trust expects all staff and volunteers to be dementia aware and to support the care of people with dementia.

All staff are expected to share this commitment and meet the competencies relevant to their role.

Person Specification Knowledge and Experience
  • Has a minimum of 2 years practice working in a safeguarding role with responsibility for giving advice and support to health professionals
  • Advanced knowledge of safeguarding legislative frameworks for children
  • Experience and advanced knowledge of managing complex safeguarding concerns in a multiagency context, for example domestic abuse, neglect, child exploitation
  • Experience of quality improvement approaches
  • Experience of the development and delivery of training content
  • Experience of assessment of risk and information sharing for statutory and non‑statutory processes in safeguarding children. For example, strategy discussions and ICPC, MARAC & MASH
  • Excellent knowledge of contemporary safeguarding issues for children and families
  • Experience of line managing staff
  • Experience of/ participation in, statutory review processes. For example, Rapid Reviews and Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews
  • Experience of providing safeguarding supervision
