This is a developmental post requiring willingness to undertake advanced practice modules or work toward an accredited pathway in which to fully achieve the following:
- Under supervision and support of the Lead Trauma Nurse Coordinator and Matron, the post holder will provide constant, high-quality continuity to the Plastics and burns team for the trauma cohort.
- Working in-line with the junior doctors under the supervision of the Consultant.
The post holder will act as a senior nurse within the Plastic Surgery and Burns Trauma service, a highly visible role, accessible to patients, carers and staff for assistance advice and support to both Trauma and Elective patients in all sub specialty teams. Main duties of the job
- Responsible for the coordination of the Plastic Surgery trauma services
- liaising with the emergency department and other outside referrers regarding admissions to plastics
- attend the daily trauma meeting and liaise with ANP regarding overnight admissions and location of the patients
- take lead responsibility for producing the daily Trauma whiteboard spreadsheet for the MDT meeting
- Ensuring patient episodes are appropriately coded and recorded
- Liaise with various health care professionals to ensure that each patient’s hospital episode is managed in the most effective and efficient way, in line with the Trust strategy on patient-centred care
- Plan date of surgery and ensure relevant investigations are carried out in timely fashion
- Facilitate scheduling of patients awaiting Plastics trauma whilst ensuing effective utilisation of theatre sessions, minimize cancelations and optimise pre-operative pathways (assessments and scheduling)
- Assist in the data collection on Plastics trauma pathways by means of quantitative/qualitative audit, on-going monitoring, and general feedback
- Maintain close liaison with patients, carers, families and next of kins
- Prioritise workload and liaise closely with on call team
- The post holder will be responsible for managing the flow of trauma patients from point of referral, assessment, admission, surgery and discharge.
