Job Summary

The Early Head Start (EHS) Assistant Toddler Teacher is a crucial support position, responsible for assisting the Teacher in planning and implementing a high-quality, developmentally appropriate education program for infants and toddlers (typically birth to three years old) within the EHS framework. This role helps ensure the classroom meets the comprehensive needs of the children and their families, adhering to Head Start Performance Standards and program policies.

Hourly Rate: $19-$22

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement and comply with all Head Start/Early Head Start standards and program policies and procedures, EEC regulations, Classroom Assessment and Scoring System (CLASS), Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS), and National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation as trained.
  • Engage in all activities supporting the daily operations of the classroom including, but not limited to classroom setup of activities, classroom cleaning, and classroom maintenance and rotation of toys.
  • Assist Lead teacher and teacher with all aspects of planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-focused curriculum to ensure School Readiness Goals are met.
  • Assist in planning, creating, and implementing weekly lesson plans in Teaching Strategies Gold at the discretion of the Lead Teacher.
  • Implement positive redirection and behavior guidance ensuring all children have a safe and healthy learning environment.
  • Individualize experiences, activities, learning opportunities, and strategies to meet each child’s individual developmental needs within the classroom.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including the classroom teaching staff, EHS specialist, mental health, family advocate, education/disabilities specialists, and nursing and nutrition staff.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of EEC/Head Start/Early Head Start policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with families and parents, maintaining accurate, up-to-date records of all parent/teacher communication.
  • Maintain an accurate count of the children in attendance using the attendance sheet with name-to-face recognition in accordance with program policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the Early Head Start Mental Health Specialist and other members of the EHS Team to create a trauma informed classroom.
  • Provide coverage and support to other classrooms in the building as needed.
Other Requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check and other required clearances
  • Must have or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift 50 pounds and carry young children, bend, stoop, and actively engage with children
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required
  • Ability to participate in fine and gross motor skills including but not limited to, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, extending, and reaching to engage with children at eye level and to play with children on the floor.
  • Ability to provide cleaning of the classroom.
  • Assist in the bringing of toys on and off the playground.

  • Participate in classroom Team planning meetings with the EHS Specialist as well as other members of the EHS Team to develop classroom planning and experiences.
  • Engage in monthly planning/coaching meetings with the EHS Specialist to develop professional goals and discuss classroom experiences.
