HIM Processing Associate (40 Hours, Days)
Join Boston Medical Center (BMC) as a Health Information Management (HIM) Assistant. The role ensures the integrity of medical records by collecting, preparing, scanning, processing, copying, and responding to medical record inquiries in compliance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements.
Position SummaryThe HIM Assistant opens mail, sends for and releases medical information, prepares records and tests for scanning, files, copies, and faxes medical information, accurately and timely enters data into multiple databases, generates required reports, ensures transmission of required data to governmental entities, and provides auditors complete and accurate documentation to increase reimbursement and decrease denials.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, prepare, scan, process, copy, and respond to medical record inquiries.
- Open mail, send for and release medical information.
- Prepare medical records and tests for scanning.
- File, copy, and fax medical information.
- Enter data accurately and timely into multiple databases.
- Generate required reports.
- Transmit required data to governmental entities.
- Provide auditors with comprehensive documentation to improve reimbursement and reduce denials.
- High school diploma required.
- At least 1 full year of experience as an HIM clerk or related experience.
- Competent computer skills with Windows‑based experience.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Ability to push or pull up to 40 pounds.
- Excellent visual skills, detail‑oriented, and able to follow explicit instructions.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with physicians, nursing units, and other departments.
- Coverage for Birth Registry is required; training provided but preferred experience with Birth Registry or State Law/Regulation proficiency.
Hourly rate: $18.63 – $23.64.
