Purposeof Position
Provides the necessary hands‑on software expertise to clear MACARs, simulator write‑ups, perform modifications and upgrades, and other software related configuration efforts for all sites in the assigned region. Resides in one of the predesignated regional locations. Performs without assistance; recognized as a resource to others: able to translate complex nuances to others; able to improve processes; focus on broad issues. Trains other teammates as required.
Tasksand Responsibilities
- Reviews simulator engineering specifications, malfunction documents, Auto flight system test requirements, Auto flight related test data, and aircraft wiring diagrams and schematics, plus all additional autoflight related aircraft specific data.
- Designs and implements Auto flight simulation software and integrates the software with that of the other engineering disciplines such as flight, engines, systems, navigation, and visual systems.
- Integrates Auto flight software with control loading and motion software and hardware.
- Develops complete Auto flight system test program and prepares Auto flight system customer test plans.
- Prepares customer test guide for the Auto flight system per specifications.
- Performs standardized checkout procedures.
- Understands and develops full Flight Director and Autopilot models and control laws.
- Transforms engineering flow diagrams into high‑order computer language and working Auto flight system models.
- Conducts Auto flight system tests under supervision of an experienced Auto flight engineer.
- Uses pictures‑to‑code tools to develop software models.
- Directs all aspects of Auto flight tests under the supervision of Lead Engineer or Group Leader.
- Works with other engineering departments to ensure the Auto Flight simulation meets all test requirements.
- Participates in on‑site qualification process of simulator.
- Interfaces with customers to complete Auto flight system testing and correct any discrepancies in Auto flight system simulation.
- Provides periodic informational reviews to the functional and project management.
- Works with other engineering departments, program managers and others to smoothly and efficiently effect an integrated total simulation.
- Performs general software troubleshooting and debugging.
- Performs simulator upgrades, modification, and/or changes.
- Evaluates and clears MACARs.
- Provides software configuration control and generates backups for the Host, IOS, DCLS, DMS, AIC miscellaneous systems and others as required.
- Evaluates hardware MACARs and write‑ups and fixes or repairs as possible.
- Ensures FVS receives copies of all MACARs and provides insight and evaluations concerning those associated problems and write‑ups.
- Prepares and administers software classes and training for technicians at all regional sites.
- Coordinates hardware and software repairs, fixes, modification, updates, and changes with the Field Engineering Group as required.
- Performs software engineering and configuration management to ensure continuity between the training center and the customer, FVS and manufacturer.
- Travels, shifts work, and works special hours may be required to accomplish some of the above tasks.
