Environmental Health Officer - Facilities & Environment
Location: Hybrid (2 days remote / 3 days office-based)
Contract: 6 months, with the possibility of extension

Aatom Recruitment is supporting a local authority in recruiting an experienced Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to play a key role within the Facilities & Environment team. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to help shape housing standards, regulatory compliance, and service improvements across the organisation.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs the Environmental Health Officer, you will:
- Review and enhance regulatory functions relating to housing disrepair, housing standards, and associated enforcement within Public Protection and relevant Council departments.
- Prepare the service for new and upcoming legislation, including renter's rights and related statutory guidance.
- Develop and refine data systems, reporting frameworks, and analytical processes to support evidence-based decision-making.
- Increase awareness among senior management and elected members regarding regulatory responsibilities, risks, and service priorities.
- Update and implement policies, procedures, and guidance documents to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Lead and support key programmes and initiatives associated with housing regulation and environmental health.
- Represent the authority in multi-agency and partnership meetings, influencing progress and promoting best practice in housing regulation.
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Strong experience in environmental health, particularly around housing standards.
- Knowledge of current and emerging regulatory frameworks affecting renters and landlords.
- Confidence in managing data, identifying trends, and providing informed recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, senior leaders, and external partners.
- A proactive, organised approach with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
