SEN Learning Support Assistant

Pioneer People are seeking a confident, adaptable SEN Learning Support Assistant with SEN experience to join a warm and supportive independent school environment. With small class sizes, a nurturing approach, supporting a small class of Early Years and KS1 students. This role is ideal for someone who can balance empathy, clear expectations, and emotional insight when supporting young people with complex needs in a learning environment around the Bromsgrove area.

The role will involve personal care and behavioural support as dysregulation can be frequent and can cause injury therefore, we need somebody who is resilient and has experience in behaviour management.

* School hours - 8:30am - 3:30pm

You must have:

* Previous experience with SEN children (Autism and ASD as a minimum)

* Confident in providing behavioural support and de-escalation

* Previous experience in a childcare setting (1 years minimum)

* Confident and outgoing personality

* DBS on the update service

* Paediatric First Aid Certificate

* Safeguarding Certificate

* Understanding of safeguarding procedures and the confidence to report concerns

* A confident, warm personality and the ability to maintain clear, consistent boundaries.

* Experience or natural aptitude for supporting pupils with challenging behaviour or emotional needs.

* An understanding of the needs of children who have experienced trauma, neglect, or care environments—or a willingness to learn.

* The resilience, patience, and emotional intelligence needed to support pupils with a younger developmental age.

* A flexible, team-focused approach and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

* Good physical health, as the role involves being active and fully present throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide structured small-group support (up to 8 pupils), keeping students engaged, focused, and working towards their individual learning goals.

* Apply calm, consistent behaviour support strategies, recognising that behaviour is communication, and helping pupils regulate their emotions in a safe, reassuring environment.

* Support vulnerable pupils, including those with trauma histories or younger developmental ages, using a nurturing and emotionally sensitive approach.

* Build trusting relationships with pupils, responding thoughtfully to their needs and promoting confidence, security, and positive engagement.

* Work flexibly across the school day, stepping in wherever needed to maintain routines and support staff.

* Contribute to a calm, purposeful learning environment by adapting to changing situations and ensuring pupils feel understood and supported.

Experience in education, youth work, care, social care, mentoring, or behaviour support would be helpful but is not essential for the right candidate.
