We are recruiting for our Community Specialist Palliative Care Nursing Team in North Worcestershire. The service covers a wide area from Tenbury Wells in the west to the outskirts of Birmingham in the east, with two locations:
Princess of Wales Hospital in Bromsgrove and KEMP Hospice in Kidderminster. The advertised post is based at Bromsgrove, with an expectation of supporting the west side as clinical need requires.
The team operates 365 days a year, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with weekend and bank holiday coverage via a rota that the successful applicant will join once settled into the team.
As a member of the Specialist Palliative Care Team you will be an effective team member who shares experience and knowledge of palliative care, supports colleagues, and is willing to learn and develop as the team strives to deliver excellent care. It is essential that you can fulfil the travel requirements of the post.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Palliative Care services across North Worcestershire including Palliative Medicine Consultants, Palliative Care in‑patient Unit, Neighbourhood Teams, specialist palliative care services, and specialist services within neighbouring acute Trusts, hospices and primary care colleagues. You will provide expert advice for patients with a life‑limiting diagnosis, manage a caseload, and act as a primary resource for health professionals in care settings.
You will attend and present patients at the weekly MDT meeting and support the GSF meetings held by primary care colleagues. Additionally, you will undertake audit, critically appraise current research to apply to practice, update policies to reflect these developments, and lead research projects.
Job responsibilities
You will hold a patient caseload based around a group of GP surgeries to support patients and families in making decisions about their care, enabling them to live as well as possible despite their life‑limiting illness and die in their preferred location.

Person specification
Qualifications- Registered Nurse
- Degree or equivalent
- Relevant short courses (e.g. Symptom Control and End of Life Care)
- Demonstrated ability to teach with a recognised teaching qualification
- Evidence of continual professional development
- Willingness to undertake a Non‑Medical Prescribing course or existing qualification
- Post‑graduate qualification in palliative care or completion of the Princess Alice Course
- Advanced communication skills (formal course)
- Recent attendance at a Pain and Symptom Control Course
- Significant post‑basic experience
- Experience of working in palliative care or caring for palliative patients
- Experience managing complex patients within a nursing role
- Extensive experience of caseload and/or team management
- Experience of clinical audit and/or utilisation of research skills
- Experience developing and reviewing standards or policies
- Experience incorporating policy and evidence into practice
- Teaching/presentation experience
- Experience managing a caseload independently
- Experience conducting ReSPECT and advanced care planning conversations with patients
- Experience undertaking audit and research
- Specialist knowledge of caring for patients with a life‑limiting illness
- Holistic patient assessment
- Support and teach patients how to manage their symptoms to improve daily life
