Refuse Driver

Job Purpose

To safely and efficiently operate refuse collection vehicles as part of the Bromsgrove District Council Commercial Waste Team ensuring the timely collection and transportation of commercial waste in accordance with Council procedures health and safety requirements and service standards.

The postholder will work as part of a team to provide a reliable professional and customer-focused waste collection service across the district.

• Drive and operate refuse collection vehicles safely and responsibly.
• Carry out commercial waste collections in accordance with agreed routes schedules and service requirements.
• Work effectively as part of a refuse collection team to ensure daily services are completed efficiently and on time.
• Safely load collect and transport commercial waste and recyclable materials as required.
• Complete vehicle and equipment checks and report any defects damage or safety concerns promptly.
• Comply with all relevant road traffic legislation health and safety procedures and Council policies.
• Ensure waste is handled and transported safely and in accordance with relevant environmental requirements.
• Provide a professional and courteous service when dealing with customers businesses and members of the public.
• Assist with loading and other operational duties when required.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment and report any hazards or incidents appropriately.
• Support the wider Commercial Waste Team to ensure an efficient and reliable service.

• Valid and appropriate driving licence for operating the required refuse collection vehicle.
• Previous experience of driving commercial waste collection or other large vehicles is desirable.
• Good understanding of road safety and safe vehicle operation.
• Ability to carry out vehicle and equipment checks and identify potential defects or hazards.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Reliable punctual and able to work to agreed collection schedules.
• Physically able to undertake the duties associated with refuse collection including assisting with loading and handling waste.
• Commitment to health and safety and compliance with Council procedures.
• Flexible approach and willingness to undertake other reasonable operational duties as required.

Location: Bromsgrove District Council Commercial Waste Team

Hours per week: 37 hours per week 4 days per week. Start time 6:00am. Finish at 4:30pm for 3 days and 3:30pm on the final day.
