Functions:

The Group Teacher, under the supervision of the Coordinator of Child Care, will provide support to child care staff in addition to aiding and teaching children in need of educational direction.

Principal Activities:

1. Works within the guidelines of the AAPCI and carries out its functions, policies and procedures; observing the schedules in the center and adhering to its established personnel policies and practices.

2. Supervise a given group of children.

a. Supervise the planning and execution of a program to provide developmental and health needs of the group, as well as the individual child.

b. Submits weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator of Child Care.

c. Responsible for keeping equipment and material accessible and in good condition in order to ensure maximum constructive use by children.

d. Responsible for removing and/or reporting any damaged or hazardous equipment to the Coordinator of Child Care or to maintenance so that appropriate action may be taken.

e. Responsible for planning and supervising an appropriate arrangement of his/her own classroom furniture designed to promote optimal program functioning.

f. Shares in the overall planning for the best use of shared space relative to the size of the program.

g. Plans the use of community resources to enrich the educational content of the children's program.

h. Develops a program of sound educational goals, appropriate to the age and developmental level of the children which will enable them make the most of their future educational opportunities.

3. PROMOTING THE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH OF CLASSROOM ASSOCIATES AND SELF:

a. Assist and supports the Coordinator of Child Care in the professional growth and development of classroom associates through regularly scheduled individual and classroom group conferences based on daily observations of the of the associates performance within the group and their applications of new skills acquired through training and experiences.

b. Attends all mandatory training sessions in the field of early childhood education.

4. PROMOTES SOUND PARENT RELATIONSHIPS:

a. Develops and implements an appropriate plan by which information concerning the child(ren) and the program can be shared with the parent.

b. Attends and participates in group parent meetings.

c. Respects the confidential nature of all information about parents and children.

d. Acts respectfully and professionally in all interactions with parents and children.

5. Maintains good work relationship and objectivity with other staff members of the day care center and the AAPCI.

6. KITCHEN AND PREPARATION OF FOOD :
    • Prepares nutritious breakfast, lunch & snacks in accordance to USDA guidelines.
    • Follows recipes menu and portion controls.
    • Ensures that food is prepared in a sanitary and timely manner.
    • Cleaning, sanitizing and the organization of food products and utensils in the kitchen on a routine basis, (i.e. Refrigerator, Freezer, Shelves, Dishes).
  • 7. Any other job-related duties

    Effect On End Results:
  • Compliance with contractual obligations and AAPCI regulations are maintained.
  • Services are delivered to children in an effective and humane manner.
  • Service are delivered to children so that their parents can pursue important activities (i.e.
  • educational/training programs, search for permanent housing, search for employment, attend day

  • The agency is recognized by the public, advocacy groups, other social service agencies and by the residents as a provider of quality services, thereby maintaining a positive image.
  • Qualifications:

    The group teacher is responsible for the development of lesson plans, child care activities, monitoring children's health, maintaining attendance and the general activities of the child care rooms.

    In addition, the incumbent must have at least three (3) years of work experience in a pre-school, infant and toddler program: A High School Diploma/GED and Food Safety Certification: 'New York State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills'

    Compensation

    The base salary compensation range being offered for this role is $48,667.
