The Department of Middle and High School Education has nationally recognized and accredited undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare candidates to earn New York State teacher certifications in secondary content areas (English, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) as well as ESOL P-12, Visual Arts P-12, Music P12, and the Bilingual Extension 5-12. Faculty in the department are committed to the Lehman Urban Transformative Education framework adopted by Lehman's School of Education.

The Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor
-Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and/or Bilingual Education PreK-grade 12.
MHSE seeks an individual whose expertise includes teaching, research, and coordination duties in TESOL and/or Bilingual Education PreK-grade 12. The successful candidate also shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned. While some online teaching or remote administrative work may be allowed, the role requires consistent on-campus engagement. Faculty are expected to maintain a regular on-campus presence for teaching, office hours, departmental and other activities.
The position is not a remote position.
Candidates must also have outstanding collaboration skills to engage with program faculty colleagues, alumni, site supervisors, K-20 school and community partners, our advisory council, and students in promoting and supporting exemplary program assessment and development. Strong interpersonal skills with students, as well as excellent administrative and organizational abilities, are essential. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chairperson of MHSE.
Major Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the MHSE, School of Education. Courses and workload assignments are assigned by the Chairperson of MHSE. The teaching load is 18 hours (6 courses) per 9-month academic year for each contract year. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility issues in education, advise and work with students to support their success, observe practicum and student teachers, work in professional development schools and, teach evening and/or weekend classes.
Faculty are required to provide service and participate in the affairs of the department, School of Education, College, and University, including but not limited to program coordination, committee work and curriculum development, and participate in ongoing program review and accreditation. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to engage in cross departmental and/or cross-college and university collaborative projects. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards.
Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Earned doctoral degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field;
* Expertise in ESOL and bilingual/ multilingual pedagogies;
• Expertise in educational assessment, experiential learning, and project-based learning;
* Demonstrated commitment to social justice, multi-modal learning, anti-racist pedagogies, multilingualism, and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining pedagogy;
* Record of or potential for educational research and scholarly writing;
* Evidence of successful attainment of external funding for research and/or program development;
* Ability to collaborate in recruiting students for undergraduate and graduate programs;
* Experience coordinating graduate and undergraduate teacher education programs;
