Summary:
The Shift Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager, Director of Operations, and Site Director and is responsible for overseeing daily shift operations and supervising Residential Aides and other Operations staff. This position provides leadership, guidance, and support to ensure a safe, secure, and efficient environment for clients, staff, and visitors, while maintaining compliance with agency policies, procedures, and operational standards. The Shift Supervisor also serves as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts, addressing incidents, coordinating staff activities, and promoting high-quality service delivery and effective facility operations.
Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:
The job duties of the Shift Supervisor include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Supervise and provide direction to Residential Aides and Operations staff to ensure the safe, secure, and efficient operation of the facility.
- Monitor clients, residential units, common areas, and facility grounds to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of all residents.
- Screen, inspect, and monitor all persons and items entering the facility in accordance with established safety and security protocols.
- Provide crisis prevention, de-escalation, intervention, and emergency response services as needed.
- Document incidents, accidents, resident concerns, and grievances accurately and timely in logbooks, incident reports, and other required records.
- Maintain effective communication with management and departmental staff regarding resident issues, operational concerns, and service delivery needs.
- Oversee visitor and entry logs to ensure all individuals entering and exiting the facility are properly recorded and accounted for.
- Conduct routine inspections of assigned cleaning, maintenance, and operational tasks to ensure compliance with facility standards and expectations.
- Monitor video surveillance systems and respond appropriately to security concerns, emergencies, and potential policy violations.
- Ensure compliance with all agency policies and procedures, including health, safety, fire, and emergency preparedness requirements.
- Identify and promptly report safety hazards, maintenance issues, and operational concerns to the appropriate supervisory or maintenance personnel.
- Assist residents by addressing questions, providing information, and facilitating the resolution of concerns in a professional and respectful manner.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and professional environment while utilizing sound judgment and conflict-resolution skills to address issues as they arise.
- Participate in the development and implementation of operational improvements by providing recommendations to enhance efficiency, safety, and service quality.
- Provide shift coverage and operational support as needed to maintain adequate staffing and continuity of services.
- Work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations, as required by program needs.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the overall mission, objectives, and effective operation of the facility.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.
- Ability to lift, reach, carry, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.
Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
- May be required to work an extended shift if proper relief is delayed.
- Shifts typically last from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
- May at times be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays based on organizational needs, deadlines, or events.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required, plus a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Note:
