We are seeking an Equipment Manager to oversee the construction fleet in the greater Western Connecticut area. This is a high-impact role focused on maximizing the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of a diverse range of heavy equipment and vehicles across multiple job sites.
What You'll Do as the Equipment Manager:- Maintain accurate equipment records, including location, condition, and usage
- Oversee fleet purchasing and rental decisions based on project demands and budget
- Schedule and manage preventative maintenance, repairs, and overhauls
- Assign and allocate equipment to ensure optimal utilization across crews and sites
- Develop and manage equipment budgets and identify opportunities for cost savings
- Negotiate vendor contracts for purchasing, maintenance, and repair services
- Provide training on equipment safety, operation, and maintenance best practices
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and investigate incidents when necessary
- Manage transportation, storage, and eventual disposal of equipment
- Lead a team of mechanics and operators, providing clear communication and performance feedback
- 3+ years of experience managing equipment or fleet operations, ideally in construction
- Familiarity with heavy construction equipment such as pavers, rollers, excavators, and loaders
- Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and repair protocols
- Experience with equipment inventory systems and cost tracking
- Basic mechanical knowledge and comfort working around equipment and shop staff
- Effective communication and leadership skills
- Strong organizational habits and attention to detail
- Knowledge of OSHA and industry-specific safety standards
- Experience in the heavy civil construction industry
- Technical certifications in equipment maintenance or safety
- Previous supervisory experience managing a team of mechanics or operators
- Experience negotiating with vendors and managing equipment procurement
