Patient Access Specialist – Brookings – Night Shift

Full‑time night shift Kobo (Monday–Wednesday 7pm–7am with alternating Sundays 7pm–7am) at Curry Health Network.

Under the direct supervision of the Registration Supervisor, the Patient Access Specialist collects patient information, ensures patients are aware of network policies and procedures, interviews patients or their representatives, and enters accurate data into the computer database. The specialist distributes information to ancillary departments and participates in performance improvement and CQI efforts.

• Interview patients or their representatives to obtain personal information and/or verify existing information, including emergency contact numbers and insurance information.
• Obtain signatures from all incoming patients on Conditions of Access and Privacy forms.
• Provide information to patients or representatives about billing, complaint process, patient rights, and HIPAA; distribute network‑specific literature appropriately.
• Collect payments, record payments, and forward payments to Fiscal Services appropriately and by the next business day.
• Know network financial policies, be familiar with available services, and refer patients to financial counselors when appropriate.
• Communicate appropriately and clearly to supervisors, coworkers, and patients.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s effectiveness and organizational performance in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision, and Shared Values.

• Education & Experience
  :
  High school graduate or equivalent; one year in office setting preferred; experience with medical terminology and insurance preferred.
• Language skills
  :
  Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing; additional languages preferred.
• Experience in a setting that required excellent customer service preferred.

• Basic computer knowledge.
• Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
