SF - Structural Engineer III

Full-Time position in our Sioux Falls office.

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program

Four plus years

• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in South Dakota
• Valid State Driver’s License

• Instruction on specific objectives
• Direction on unconventional and/or complex problems, and possible solutions
• A thorough review of completed work for application of sound professional judgment

• Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry-level engineers and technicians
• Assists in determining schedule and producing project proposals as required
• Mentor Engineer Levels I and II as appropriate

In accordance with established criteria and with Heyer Engineering best practices

• Completes moderate design tasks
• Prepares portions of project documents
• Edits specifications
• Performs research and investigations
• Maintains project files

• Moderate/Practical knowledge of and has developed engineering skills (advanced trainee)
• Structural engineering
• Detailing
• To evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features and a broader assignment (small projects or portions of larger projects)
• To collaboratively use judgment to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments within a specific practice area
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and engineering software (RISA and/or Tekla)
• Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
• Assists with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings

• Sufficient English skills to compose correspondence, proofread documents, communicate tactfully and effectively with administrators, office staff, clients and vendors
• Respectable oral and written communication skills
• Recognizes that changes are inevitable and positively implement changes
• Fieldwork may be included
• Other duties as assigned

• Involved in outreach activities with community service organizations
• Member of professional practice organization, member of local program or committee
