Position Highlights

Schedule:

Monday - Friday from 7:45 am to 5:15 pm. Off one afternoon/week.

Urgent Care Coverage:
Every 8th weekend from 9am-Noon on Saturday and Sunday. One weeknight every other week until 7pm.

Sign on Bonus:

  • MLS:
    May be eligible for a $15,000 Sign on Bonus with a 3 year commitment.
  • Lab Tech:
    May be eligible for a $3,000 Sign on Bonus with a 2 year commitment.

This position is eligible for Avera's Student Loan Repayment Program which helps you pay off your loans and save money. Each month an extra payment of $167 (up to $10,000) from Avera will help pay down your principle balance faster.

Lab Tech Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
  • Associate's Transcript showing Medical Laboratory Technician Degree
  • MLT - American Medical Technologists (AMT) within 1 Year or with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1 Year or

A Brief Overview

Monitors, coordinates and performs timely, accurate, quality clinical laboratory results utilizing all available human and material resources within the laboratory.

What you will do
  • Performs testing utilizing established protocol with a high degree of accuracy in all departments of the laboratory. Performs calibration, quality control checks, and preventative maintenance steps on assigned instrumentation.
  • Reviews, researches, interprets, and reports data. Assumes responsibility for distinguishing between normal and abnormal clinical parameters.
  • Collects, receives, and transports blood and other specimens from clinic patients following accepted standards of practice.
  • Implements and monitors laboratory inventory and control program. Responsible for resource utilization (supplies and equipment) in department.
  • Responsible for training of new employees or co-workers on new equipment/procedures as applicable. Assists in student clinical rotation programs.
  • Researches, suggests, evaluates, and implements new tests and updates current tests. Attends educational training for new skills, technology or knowledge applicable to the laboratory and throughout the clinic to maintain quality testing and infrastructure flow.
  • Actively participates in quality assurance program. Recommends corrective action for problems identified. Reviews policies and reads procedures as scheduled. Assists in the preparation for inspection and participation during inspection.
