The Brookline Arts Center is hiring a part-time art teacher for our youngest studio artists, ages 5–7, starting with our Winter 2027 session, with opportunities to continue into spring, summer, and beyond. In this role, you will lead hands‑on art classes where children build confidence, imagination, and early art skills, along with the social skills that come from making things together.
You will create a studio that is joyful, safe, and welcoming to every child, balancing open‑ended creativity with the structure that young kids need to thrive.
You will also be able to propose new classes of your own in future sessions.
YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF YOU- Get excited by a child's first 3D creation, and by the glue that comes with it
- Enjoy turning simple materials into playful, hands‑on discoveries
- Are energized by young children's curiosity, humor, and short attention spans
- See teaching this age group as a craft in itself and want to keep growing in it
Winter 2027 session:
January 4 – March 25, 2027
Schedule:
Weekday afternoons, 3:30–5:30, about 1–2 days a week. Extra classes, private lessons, weekend teaching, and birthday parties are available if you are interested.
Class size:
Typically 7–15 children, with a teaching assistant for classes over 10.
Location:
On‑site at the Brookline Arts Center, near the MBTA Green Line C branch (St. Mary's Street) and D branch (Fenway).
Pay: $26.25–$33 per hour, commensurate with experience, including paid prep, setup, and cleanup time.
ABOUT THE BACThe Brookline Arts Center is a neighborhood art studio in an old firehouse on Monmouth Street. It began in 1964 in the Brookline home of Barnett and Marilyn Berliner, and it is still run cooperatively, with deep roots in the community. We believe every child deserves a place to make things with their own hands, and that art should be open to everyone.
Children here learn painting, drawing, clay, printmaking, fibers, jewelry and sculpture.
