FITNESS COORDINATOR
Council on Aging
Part‑Time (30 hours/week), Benefitted
$25 hourly
The Council on Aging is seeking a Fitness Coordinator to develop, coordinate, and deliver fitness and wellness programming for older adults at the Brookline Senior Center. This 30‑hour‑per‑week benefitted position is responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive exercise environment that promotes health, mobility, and overall well‑being for both active older adults and those new to fitness. The Fitness Coordinator works with a high degree of initiative and judgment and plays a key role in supporting participants’ physical health and functional independence.
Responsibilities- Manage intake and orientation for new Fitness Center participants.
- Conduct pre‑program assessments and review health histories, physician clearance forms, and exercise restrictions.
- Design and implement individualized exercise programs tailored to participant needs and abilities.
- Schedule and supervise individual and group workout sessions.
- Instruct participants in the safe and effective use of exercise equipment, free weights, and resistance bands.
- Teach small group classes focused on strength, flexibility, balance, and stretching.
- Monitor participant performance, correct form, and adjust workloads to maximize benefit and minimize injury risk.
- Participate in and support health promotion initiatives, including fall prevention, nutrition, and wellness programs.
- Prepare and post health education materials and maintain usage and participation records.
- Maintain fitness equipment and ensure a safe exercise environment.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding the Fitness Center and fitness programming.
- Refer participants to social work or other support services as appropriate.
- Assist the Program Manager with recruiting, training, and evaluating fitness instructors.
- Attend required trainings and continuing education to maintain professional certifications.
- Participate in occasional community‑wide events.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Certification as a Personal Trainer.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with older adults.
- Knowledge of exercise guidelines for older adults, including individuals with chronic conditions.
- Ability to design and supervise individualized and group fitness programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License.
