- ** Debugging & Problem Solving:
Apply strong debugging, analytical reasoning, and systems-thinking skills to diagnose complex issues, resolve production incidents, and ensure the reliability and stability of distributed systems.
* 4-year degree or equivalent experience
* 9+ years of software development experience
* Proficiency in Java, Kotlin and frameworks like Spring, Micronaut is preferred.
* Strong experience in database technologies like Cassandra, PostgreSQL
* Strong understanding of OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, OWASP Top 10 security principles, and agentic commerce OAuth flows; experience supporting enterprise-grade authentication and Zero Trust architectures.
* Strong experience with API development and integration.
* Strong debugging and analytical reasoning skills for diagnosing complex issues in distributed, event-driven systems.
* Knowledge of caching techniques, distributed systems and performance optimization.
* Experience with open-source technologies such as Kafka, CI/CD tools, Git Hub, Open Telemetry, Grafana, InfluxDB
* Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

As a Lead Engineer, you’ll take the lead as you…
* Design, build, and operate
** security tooling and automation
** that integrates deeply into development workflows (e.g., CI/CD, linting, auto-fix, click-to-fix flows).
* Create solutions that make the
** secure path the easiest path** — embedding guardrails, reducing manual fixes, and improving the developer experience at scale.
* Augment existing processes with a
** security lens**: dependency scanning, SAST/DAST/SCA, supply chain risk, and automated remediations.
* Collaborate with product engineering teams to
** enable secure-by-default applications**, influencing architecture and design with practical security guidance.
* Build “push-down” solutions such as rules, plugins, and pipeline integrations so that security issues are surfaced and fixed where code is written.
* Evaluate new opportunities to improve security across Target’s environment, targeting solutions that deliver the greatest impact.
* Maintain observability and feedback loops for security signals across production systems.
