The Electrical/Mechanical Machine Builder will be responsible for building automation equipment and occasionally installing and supporting it at Tesla facilities. Tasks include performing mechanical assembly, electrical panel wiring, field wiring, troubleshooting and machine integration of industrial automated equipment. This job operates in an assembly shop floor environment and occasionally at other Tesla locations. Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and loud environments.
Shift: Monday - Friday; 2:00PM - 10:30PM, with additional overtime on an as‑needed basis.
What You’ll Do- Assemble and install equipment at other Tesla locations (30-40% travel), and manage onsite installation, repair, maintenance, and testing tasks.
- Collaborate with project teams, including Controls Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Assemblers, Project Managers, and others; build positive relationships with coworkers and peers.
- Identify and mitigate potential problems (i.e. anticipate problems before they occur); troubleshoot and debug industrial automated equipment and ensure equipment is in proper working condition after troubleshooting.
- Perform preventative maintenance and diagnostics on automation systems and components.
- Complete service repairs, replacements, upgrades, adjustments, and calibrations, and assist in automation system startups.
- Provide status updates to management.
- Comply with company safety procedures and Tesla policies.
- 5+ years experience building automated equipment preferred; must provide own basic set of hand tools.
- Ability to read/understand mechanical drawings and schematics.
- High precision and close tolerance proficiency, as well as strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with machine shop equipment (i.e. mill machine, drill press, lathe, etc.).
- Proficient in MS Office 2010 and general computer literacy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Self‑starter, team player with positive attitude.
