Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Brooklyn, New York in a contract capacity with the potential for a permanent role. This position will play a key role in managing receivables, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting the integrity of the general ledger. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting expertise, a detail-oriented approach, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Process and post incoming payments while ensuring accounts receivable activity is recorded accurately and on time.

- Monitor and manage government, program-based, and other outstanding receivables, including Medicaid-related balances.

- Reconcile accounts receivable sub-ledger activity to the general ledger and investigate any discrepancies to resolution.

- Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation to maintain complete and accurate financial records.

- Perform account analysis and reconciliations to support month-end close and ongoing financial reporting needs.

- Complete bank reconciliations and review cash activity to confirm proper recording of transactions.

- Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve billing or payment issues and improve the accuracy of receivable balances. Requirements - Proven experience in senior-level accounting roles with responsibility for accounts receivable and general ledger functions.

- Strong knowledge of month-end close processes, journal entries, and account reconciliation procedures.

- Hands-on experience reconciling sub-ledgers, general ledger accounts, and bank statements.

- Familiarity with Medicaid receivables and related payment tracking is strongly preferred.

- Ability to analyze financial activity, identify variances, and resolve discrepancies with accuracy.

- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

- Experience working in a nonprofit or similarly regulated environment is a plus.
