NUTRITION EDUCATOR – – State of Florida. Join to apply for this role in the Department of Health. Requisition No. 866684. Pay Plan:

Your Specific Responsibilities
  • Certifies clients for participation in the WIC program in accordance with policies and regulations stated in HRSM 150‑24.
  • Provides nutrition education on a group or individual basis in the areas of infant, childhood, prenatal and postnatal (including breastfeeding) nutrition to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition habits.
  • Develops, monitors, and revises nutrition education plans for individual clients not at medical high risk.
  • Follows policies and procedures for collection, entry, management of data, and operation of computer terminals and printers according to the FL‑WiSE manual and HRSM 150‑24.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates group nutrition education classes and provides breastfeeding education and makes referrals to the Breastfeeding Coordinator and/or Public Health Nutritionists.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and provides follow‑up on assigned WIC operational reports.
  • Assists in preparation of strategic plan, nutrition education plan, and the quality assurance‑monitoring program.
  • Completes WIC reports and inventories as assigned.
  • Assists the supervisor in the provision of periodic in‑service education to nursing and/or medical staff on new developments in WIC regulations, current nutrition topics, and other issues.
  • Provides ongoing staff training to WIC staff on civil rights, FL‑WiSE, Nutrition Education modules, and monthly clerical nutrition education at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, in‑service training and other professional and staff development activities.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as requested.
  • Responsible for securing the designated information set for confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, in hard copy or electronic formats.
  • Functions as a “need to know” employee for security sets relating to active medical records.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the current science and practice of food and nutrition, dietetics, or food service.
  • Knowledge of normal nutrition principles and food needs throughout the life cycle.
  • Knowledge of meal planning, food budgeting, and purchasing.
  • Ability to provide nutrition education to others in groups or individual instruction.
  • Ability to determine nutritional needs and develop nutrition education plans for individuals who are not at medical high nutritional risk.
  • Ability to educate individuals and families about food and nutritional needs.
  • Ability to participate in education or in‑service training programs through teaching classes, demonstrating food practices, giving talks, and developing or selecting educational materials.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human nutrition, Food Science, or Dietetics in accordance with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Florida Chapter 468.
