Job Summary

The Lead Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Lead Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Responsibilities
  • Apply and operate acute care ventilators used for continuous short and long‑term mechanical ventilation.
  • Self‑directed in the absence of the full‑time Team Leader.
  • Maintain all department and hospital records and enter accurate information into the hospital computer for the therapy as given.
  • Perform procedures with care and empathy for patients.
Requirements
  • Completion of a two‑year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associate’s Degree or equivalent) or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Graduate of a Respiratory Care program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  • Minimum 3 years of Respiratory Therapy experience; critical care and intubation experience preferred.
  • Current Florida Certified (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) licensure.
  • American Heart Association BLS health care provider required. ACLS, PALS and NRP within 6 months of hire.
  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling and moving equipment.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Neonate Resuscitation must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
