Position

Purpose

The Veterinary Technician provides excellent veterinary care to Vetco Total Care full-service hospital patients and exceptional customer care to owners. The Veterinary Technician represents the mission and values to clients and partners. The technician helps set the tone for the technical and customer support team and fosters cohesion and motivation within the hospital partners.

All hospital partners are responsible for performing duties in a way that creates an environment where:

Essential Job Functions
  • Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments or walk-ins, escort into exam rooms, obtain weight and vital signs, record all in the electronic medical record, and begin documentation of the patient visit by obtaining a thorough patient history.
  • Assist veterinarians with appointments (routine and emergency), surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under supervision from veterinarians and Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty.
  • Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications at the veterinarian’s direction, and maintain the electronic medical record.
  • Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results, maintain and update inventory and client/patient records, and manage accounts receivable.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, monitor during recovery, and prepare for discharge or transfer as needed.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including injectable and oral medications, intravenous therapies; keep patients clean, watered, and fed as directed; walk dogs for elimination as needed.
  • Participate in training of new staff and dissemination of knowledge as required.
  • Keep hospital environment neat and clean; perform regular cleaning according to necessity and maintenance schedule.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed.
Nature Of Supervision

The Veterinary Technician takes direct supervision from veterinarians and the Hospital Office Manager or Hospital Leader on Duty; overall supervision from Hospital Office Manager.

Planning And Problem Solving

Like all team members, the Veterinary Technician helps ensure day-to-day hospital operations are efficient and provide an optimal experience for patients and clients.

Education/Experience
  • College or college-equivalent education required to become a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in the applicable state.
