Position: Maintenance Technician (HCFR)

This full-time position is responsible for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of Hernando County Fire and Emergency Service’s facilities and ancillary equipment. This position includes the responsibility of creating and maintaining electronic records for repairs and maintenance to track expenses as well as assisting in the development of an equipment replacement schedule. Other responsibilities include performing daily, weekly, monthly and or annual maintenance on portable generators, standby generators, fire stations, chain saws, ventilation saws, landscape equipment, air compressors, extraction equipment and other fire service tools and equipment.

The following statements describe the principal functions of this job and its scope of responsibility but shall not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned, including working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief, to equalize peak work periods, or otherwise to balance the workload.

  • Performs facilities maintenance and repairs on HCFES buildings related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, pressure washing, appliances, finish carpentry as well as facility inspections.
  • Obtains construction permits as required and necessary.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electric motors, light fixtures, control circuits, and wiring. Locates and corrects electrical malfunctions using electrical testing instruments. Uses wiring diagrams and blueprints to locate and isolate electrical malfunctions.
  • Tests electrical equipment for safety and adequacy using electrical testing equipment.
  • Performs field repairs of hydraulic rescue tools and power units, chain saws, ventilation saws, portable generators, fixed location generators, lawn maintenance power equipment, air compressors and other fire service tools and equipment.
  • Performs necessary preventative maintenance of small engine fire/rescue equipment.
  • Operates power tools (hydraulic rescue tools, weed cutting tools, chain saws, ventilation saws, generators, and other power equipment) to test operational status.
  • Creates and inputs data relating to repair and maintenance costs to properly track expenses.
  • Help develop ancillary equipment replacement schedules.
  • Responsible for tracking inventory of maintenance and repair supplies, parts, tools, and equipment.
Emergency Response

County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description.

Maintenance Technician I - Pay Grade 2 ($16.12-$20.96)

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Two (2) years of experience in semi-skilled building and grounds maintenance or a combination of education and field experience.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record as defined by current insurance carrier.
  • Must obtain the following certifications within one (1) year of employment: EVT certification F-2, F-8 and E-0, EPA approved HVAC recovery certification and Type I & II minimum pursuant to 40 CFR Part 82, subpart

    F.
  • This position is subject to the Hepatitis A & B Vaccine when necessary.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
  • Forklift and aerial platform certification.
  • Must possess or be capable of obtaining within 90 days FEMA ICS 100, ICS 200 and ICS 700 NIMS certification.
