Commercial Mechanical EstimatorMechanical Contractor – Broomall, PA | Full-Time | In Person
Estimate the Right Work — and Help Us Build a Better CompanyWe are a growing commercial HVAC and plumbing contractor serving the greater Philadelphia area.
We’re looking for an experienced Commercial Mechanical Estimator who understands that a good estimate isn’t simply a number that wins a project. It needs to create a profitable project that our field team can successfully execute.
This is an opportunity for a self‑motivated estimator who understands commercial mechanical construction, takes ownership of their work, and wants to help us become more disciplined about what we pursue, how we estimate it, and how we protect margin.
What You’ll Do- Prepare estimates for commercial HVAC and mechanical projects.
- Perform detailed takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
- Develop complete project costs including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, rentals, and other project requirements.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as needed.
- Identify scope gaps, drawing conflicts, risks, and unclear requirements before bid submission.
- Prepare clear proposals with appropriate inclusions, exclusions, clarifications, and alternates.
- Prepare change-order pricing when needed.
- Maintain organized bid documentation and track outstanding opportunities.
- Work with project management and field leadership to compare estimated versus actual labor and costs.
- Use completed-project results to continuously improve future estimates.
- Provide operations with a complete, organized handoff when projects are awarded.
Accurate labor estimating is one of the most important parts of this position.
Buying equipment well can improve a project, but inaccurate labor estimates can quickly eliminate its margin.
We want an estimator who understands field productivity and considers crew size, installation hours, access, logistics, material handling, equipment setting, ductwork, piping, insulation, controls, startup, TAB, phasing, mobilization, difficult conditions, and coordination with other trades.
We will compare estimated labor against actual field performance so that every completed project helps us estimate the next one better.
What We’re Looking For You Are Someone Who- Has commercial HVAC/mechanical estimating experience.
- Understands how commercial mechanical systems are actually installed.
- Can read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Understands labor productivity, job costing, gross margin, markup, and project profitability.
- Is organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines.
- Recognizes scope gaps and asks questions when something doesn’t make sense.
- Communicates well with vendors, GCs, project managers, field personnel, and customers.
- Takes ownership of estimates from initial review through handoff.
- Wants to improve systems and processes rather than simply maintain the status quo.
- Is comfortable being accountable for results and learning from estimated-versus-actual performance.
- 3+ years of commercial HVAC/mechanical estimating, project management, or related experience.
- Commercial HVAC construction experience.
- Field experience as a mechanic, foreman, project supervisor, or project manager is highly valued.
- Bluebeam or similar digital takeoff software.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Service Titan experience is a plus.
- Commercial plumbing estimating experience is a plus.
- Experience with tenant improvements, renovations, equipment replacements, retrofits, and commercial plan-and-spec work.
