Flashcut Operator

General Summary of Position The Flashcut Operator is responsible for fabricating parts from a variety of materials according to work order specifications using a cutting machine.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The machine operator is expected to spend a portion of his day cleaning the Flashcut and the area around the machine. Particularly when the machine is running the operator should utilize this time to clean and sort. The workspace should be free from debris on the ground.
• Leftover materials should be put away.
• Machine components should be free from dust and grease.
• The machine running does not count as the operator working!
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized workspace.
• Flashcut components are small and expensive. The machine operator should keep any consumable parts stored away in a safe place with identification label.
• Keep spare cutting heads stored away and ready to run with a blade installed.
• Store tools in toolbox.
• Machine specific tools should be easy to find.
• Workspace should be maintained so that any back-up operators can easily find components and run machine.
• The machine operator is expected to inspect the machine every day for proper operation, and alert production manager if any irregularities are noted. Regular maintenance is expected to be performed as recommended.
• Spare blades should be identified and in stock.
• Provide clean parts for inspection and shipping.
• Parts completed on the Flashcut must be ready to ship before leaving department. This includes removing bolt hole centers.
• Inspect parts for cut quality and tolerance, always checking the first part.
• After the first part is cut the operator should inspect the parts to ensure material was cut through.
• Operator should continuously be seeking methods to run jobs faster. Programs can be optimized to minimize traverse times.
• Keep spare parts in stock and labeled.
• Operator is expected to continuously improve skills regarding software use and CAD drawing speed and efficiency.
